Thanks to Anna Peecock for her visit to the ESA Chair

Anna is a 2nd year PhD student atthe University of Aberdeen, working on offshore energy system integration of renewables and oil & gas sectors. She visited the Chair between May and June 2023, working collaboratively with Jiangyi Huang.

Within her PhD, Anna aims to identify the strongest current and future spatiotemporal synergies between oil and gas infrastructure and future offshore wind sites in the UK North Sea, which have the potential to facilitate a reduction in operational emissions, as well as economic and environmental impacts associated with conventional decommissioning. A strong motivation for the work is to improve the currently lacking resolution in which the offshore system is considered within large-scale energy system models.

The platform-level model developed during Anna’s visit, which evaluates electrification and CCS repurposing opportunities for individual oil and gas assets, has been applied to a North Sea case study and presented at the Trondheim CCS Conference 2023*. This study will also soon be published as part of a broader-scope peer-reviewed journal article.
