Partnerships

The Chair of Energy Systems Analysis utilizes partnerships with different academic and research communities to combine knowledge across boundaries.

Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis (LEA)

external pageThe LEA is an interdivisional laboratory of the Nuclear Energy and Safety Research Division (NES) and the General Energy Research Division (ENE) within the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI). It unites specific analytical research concerning diverse energy technologies and systems, including nuclear, fossil and (modern) renewables. LEA carries out energy systems analyses relevant for energy policy issues as well as safety analysis based on Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) and focused on Human Reliability Assessment (HRA). The LEA is strongly linked to the Chair of Energy Systems Analysis through Prof. Dr. Russell McKenna, who leads both groups.

The work at the LEA falls into three main areas.

Technology Assessment

external pageThe Technology Assessment group incorporates a range of research areas to improve understanding of current energy technologies and future energy options, provide assessments of energy technologies and supply strategies and support sustainable decision making in the Swiss and international energy sectors.

Energy Economics

external pageThe Energy Economics group contributes to the understanding of energy technology development and identifies policy strategies for the realisation of sustainable energy systems at Swiss and global levels.

Risk and Human Reliability

external pageThe Risk and Human Reliability group researches methods and applications for Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) and focuses on the analysis of human performance in relation to risk assessment of safety-critical systems, accident scenario dynamics, and uncertainties.

Energy Science Center (ESC)

The ESC at ETH Zurich was founded in 2005 as an interdepartmental competence center to facilitate energy research and teaching activities across research fields and departments. Prof. Dr. Russell McKenna is a new member of the ESC and will facilitate the interaction between the two groups.

Research at the center focuses on clean, affordable, and reliably available energy with over sixty professors at ETH Zurich currently working on various projects directly related to energy science and technology.
